Wasnt sure whether to post this in the consulting thread or here but hoping to hear from folks who may have made the transition from healthcare management consulting to hospital administration and that are in a hiring manager role in hospitals.
I am in going on my 4th year as a management consultant in a major healthcare consultancy, mainly focusing on strategy/buss development work. I would like to continue to stay in consulting for another year or so but likely not longer since I am getting sick of the travel, what type of positions could I possibly qualify for? My hope is to one day be a hospital COO/CEO. However, it seems most director level jobs are looking for specific expertise in certain area of focus, which I have not gained through management consulting.
Any thoughts would be great!

Think you about projects you worked on and the departments/functions you had to engage with..and just got with it! For example, if you worked on a project helping a hospital transform their HR function, maybe you could look into org devlp/HR jobs and tailor your resume to that. But true, hospitals often pay less and want someone who has been climbing the latter slowly in one dept/function.

There is always plenty of management roles in most hospitals, especially academic medical centers. Unless you are looking to be in a clinical department, not having a very specific focus probably will not prevent you for getting a job.
