Hi fellow healthcare mgt nerds,
Ive been in a corporate health system HR role for some years and would like to go for a promotion in the near year and preparing to speak to my boss about it soon. There is a management role open in our dept but I could also push for a "senior" title. I like what I do and like to get my word done well and fast. I do wonder if having "direct reports" is necessary experience for me to continue to progress, whether in HR or other depts (i've worked in recruitment and compensation before). I have no experience directly managing people and I wonder if its going to be more of a hassle than anything. Right now I have full control of my job and how well I deliver, the idea of someone else being in charge of my success/work is a bit uneasy (i have not worked closely with the people i would POTENTIALLY manager if I pushed for the manager role).
Anyone else who has made the transition from a "worker bee" to a manager that has any thoughts or advice on this?

I went from being a 100% patient care position to a a job thats 70% administrative now that i am in a leadership role. I love it but I also enjoy motivating teams to accomplish goals and also helping them meet their own individual career goals. If those types of things are not of interest to you, then management may not be the best role for you. When you are a manager, other people depend on you not only to take care of running the department but also to take care of them and their careers (or at least keep them in mind!)
